24 Bizarre Fashion Trends That We Should All Be Ashamed About

    1. Fashion as self-expression: Clothes speak volumes about us, an amazing concept!
    2. Diverse styles: Each person develops a unique sense of style over time, leading to some unusual choices.
    3. Odd fashion trends: Here are peculiar fashion trends from the past and present, not ranked but definitely bizarre.

    1. Plastic clothing

Plastic boots – love them despite the discomfort. They look great in photos, but not so much in reality.

Plastic pants – definitely not a fan.

    2. Gauchos

Middle school days – had 2-3 pairs of gaucho pants, loose and strange fit. Wonder why we wore them? Miley Cyrus influence, maybe.

    3. Cargos

Suburban dads still wear them today, and it’s puzzling. Pockets sticking out on shorts – not flattering or cute.

Besides, don’t guys have enough pocket space already? What’s the need for those extra pockets?

    4. Skorts

Unwanted surprise in a skirt – unflattering and hideous. Thankfully, it vanished with other past monstrosities. ’00s revival might bring them back, unfortunately.

    5. Random graphic tees

Graphic tees have their moments. Feminist tees are empowering, and funny ones are great.

However, tees like Jen Aniston’s Cookie Monster one? Not a fan. Why, just why?

    6. Tie belts

Faux punk rockers tied their dad’s tie around their waist – cringeworthy. But worse? The tie skirt – too painful to remember.

    7. Half-sweaters

These were called shrugs, but I’m shrugging off this trend until a distant century.

Is it just me, or is it borderline offensive that Carrie Bradshaw wore one of these?

    8. Sky-high platforms

Lady Gaga rocks the super high platform shoes as a fashion statement, and it’s cool. But for us normal folk, comfort-wise, they’ve never been a good idea.

Flatform sandals from the past – remember those heinous ones your mother wore to look taller? Can’t even deal with them! Gotta go.

    9. Ponchos

I wore lime green, hot pink, glitter, and sequin-covered flatform sandals from Limited Too on a weekly basis – a dark time in my life.

That pretty much sums up all we need to remember about this trend. Moving on!

    10. Sweaters tied around the neck

Anyone still wearing this trend might prefer discussing their golf game, overpriced champagne, or their father’s trust fund.

    11. Sleeve parties

It’s like a party you’re fine not being invited to.

Layering short-sleeve t-shirts over long-sleeve t-shirts has always perplexed me, and I still hate the look, probably like most of us do.

    12. Visible thongs

To anyone still participating in this trend, please cut the thong, and cut it out. Enough already!

    13. Open tummy tops

True, the ’00s had a ton of this trend on the red carpet. Thankfully, we left it behind in the past. Now, it’s all about crop tops or nothing.

    14. Anything Ashley Tisdale wore circa 2007

Ash, loved you in High School Musical, obsessed over your existence, stunning then and now. But those outfit choices back then? Yeesh!

    15. Speaking of Ashley Tisdale, another fellow blonde celebrity can be added to this list. And Miss Paris Hilton, I’m talking about you!

Though she’s iconic, anything from The Simple Life should never come back in fashion. Oversized sunglasses, Von Dutch trucker hats – nope, not again!

    16. I know that fishnets had a revival in 2017, but this is one trend that has already faded into the background.

True, even though Kim Kardashian rocked it, celebrities can still make fashion mistakes.

    17. I’m very guilty of rocking this bizarre trend.

I had knock-off Uggs that looked pretty much the same. Glad that phase of my life is over.

    18. Sigh, I remember this trend like it was yesterday.

Loose, edgy tie – the perfect way to express teenage angst. A throwback to Avril Lavigne’s style icon days, especially for me.

    19. Magic bubble shirts will always remind me of frosting.

The one great thing about them is their size, making them easy to store. You could pack hundreds into a small suitcase.

    20. Aside from the other iconic clothing Paris Hilton used to wear, she was also a pioneer of the low-rise jeans.

I’ll never get this trend. Maybe because I love high-waisted jeans too much.

    21. Denim skirts will always have a place in fashion, but thankfully they are not currently ruffled like this one.

Back in the day, the more ruffles your denim skirt had, the better it was considered.

    22. Disco pants are fun, shiny, and cute and all, but it seemed like literally every girl in my high school had a pair.

Disco pants definitely make a statement – all eyes will be on you.

    23. I know that these velvet tracksuits are beyond comfortable, but wearing them outside of your house just doesn’t seem right.

Especially wearing the ones that say “Juicy” all over them – they stand out even more.

    24. Remember when guys wore baggy jeans down to their knees?

Do they really expect people to walk comfortably in these? It’s more like a waddle!

    25. Track pants with words on the bum were very acceptable at one point.

They’re definitely coming back, no doubt about it.

    26. Puka shell necklaces were IT.

Once the ultimate beachy accessory, but now cringey and locked away in the fashion vault. No desire to bring them back.

    27. There’s a lot we can thank Kanye West for, including shutter shades.

They offer no fashion or eye health benefits, yet we believed they enhanced our appearance.

    28. JNCO Jeans, anyone?

Each leg is spacious enough to accommodate at least 10 people!

    29. What did people with broad shoulders do when the shoulder pad trend hit?

I’m relieved I never joined in on this!
